We are dedicated to delivering high-quality mental health services through innovative, evidence-based approaches, continuously enhancing the diversity of our offerings to better meet the needs of our clients.
The Hummingbird Centre is dedicated to providing exceptional mental health services for clients and clinicians. We recognise that our clients come from diverse backgrounds, cultures and walks of life and that the road to empowerment requires an individual approach. That’s why our centre is committed to finding innovative, evidence-based ways to provide high-quality service to our clients and increase the diversity of our offerings.
We also celebrate the uniqueness of our compassionate clinical team, and support them as they continually grow and learn in their journeys as healers. To achieve this, we regularly collaborate with industry leaders to offer high-quality training in new therapy approaches and assessments through the Hummingbird Professional Development Network. Through considerately merging innovation, knowledge, and wisdom, we believe we can continue to improve all aspects of mental health.
We provide psychology services across Newcastle and the Hunter region, with clinics in Broadmeadow, Newcastle West, Warners Bay, and Maitland. Our team supports children, teens, and adults with therapy and assessments. You can contact our intake team to be matched with the right clinician.
The first session is a conversation about your goals and concerns. Your psychologist will ask questions, listen carefully, and explain how therapy could help. For children, parents usually attend the first appointment. Together, you’ll decide on next steps for support.
No referral is needed to book with a psychologist. However, if you want to claim Medicare rebates, your GP can provide a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Some clients also use NDIS funding, private health insurance, or insurer funding to help cover costs.
Fees vary depending on the service and clinician. Medicare rebates can reduce out-of-pocket costs, and some clients use NDIS, Workcover or private health insurance. Our intake team explains all fees before booking so you can make an informed decision.

Yes. We have a psychiatrist based at our Newcastle West and Maitland clinics. A psychiatrist can provide medical assessment, diagnosis, and medication management. This often works alongside therapy with a psychologist or social worker for a complete approach to care.
We do not bulk bill. Most clients claim a Medicare rebate with a GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan. Others use NDIS or private health insurance. Our team will outline your options before your first appointment.
The number of sessions depends on your goals and situation. Some people benefit from short-term therapy, while others prefer ongoing support. Your psychologist will review progress with you regularly so you can decide what is most helpful.
Yes. Therapy is private and confidential. The only exceptions are if there are safety concerns or legal requirements. Your psychologist will explain confidentiality clearly at the start of your first appointment so you know what to expect.
An assessment may help if your child is struggling at school, finding it hard to focus, showing signs of autism or ADHD, or having emotional or behavioural challenges. Assessments provide clarity and practical recommendations for families and teachers.
