Sarah (Sallie) Scoggin

Registered Psychologist

Locations: Newcastle

Sallie is a warm and compassionate psychologist who strives to create a welcoming and non-judgmental space for clients in therapy. She keeps her clients at the centre of her approach and strives to work with them collaboratively. She finds that therapy can also provide an opportunity for exploring possibilities, sharing a laugh, and making a human connection with her clients. Her aim is to empower clients with hope, support, tools and strategies to help them deepen their self-understanding and manage their difficulties and challenges, so they can achieve the goals they bring to therapy. She regularly seeks feedback from clients on whether the method or approach being utilised is working for them, and they are getting what they need from the experience. Our therapeutic approach can be tailored and adjusted to their feedback and goals.

Sallie works with adults and older adults using a range of psychological methods and modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Brief Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Sallie works with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD or trauma, grief and loss, self-esteem issues, communication problems, anger, attachment difficulties, and mood disorders, amongst others. Sallie has a special interest in working with older adults and their specific concerns, including transition to retirement or aged care, chronic pain, and cognitive concerns.

Before she graduated with a Master of Professional Psychology in 2021, Sallie worked in Human Resources for 14 years. She is a SIRA-certified psychologist and works with clients in the Workers Compensation system in New South Wales. She finds her HR background helpful when working with clients within the workplace environmental context.
